apologies to our faithful readership for the inactivity lately

-we’ve been busy “conceptualizing” with bdcga.wordpress.com

we’ve also been a bit obsessed with trying to get internet video working.

even tho we only have an intermittent internet connection, we’ve found for instance that we can get today’s “Democracy Now” using the Miro player, very fast; it takes less than 5 minutes to torrent the  +/-400 Mb of today’s vodcast at our local hotspot

right now i’m about to try boxee on kubuntu jaunty, and we’re also testing Livestation

of late we have been appreciating al Jazeera, The Real News, and the Onion News Network, among other broadcasters…

yes it’s probably the greatest “tv show” ever!

combining many of the the best elements of The Wire, Reno 911, and City of God/City of Men, this is the show that north america can send out into space as an example of the best programming it can offer to date.

most so-called  reality shows skew whatever they are looking at through their tvworld, synthetic “mainstream” perspective… like great drama of whatever form, this show both entertains and reveals …anyone curious about what life is really like in canada or the u.s. can get the full and accurate picture right here.

i’m not gonna say too much and wreck it for you.. suffice to say that both the themes and the details cut across any class and most culture lines… it’s basically a big agglomeration of trailer parks here!

netflix has the dvd’s with better video and sound, but you can also catch the entire series on YouTube whenever you want. TPBCentral has all the episodes of all the seasons, plus many extras.

don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of it, even tho it’s been around for like, 10 years. it’s from canada! we’d never heard of it either til corry and trevor from netflix told us about it last month (good work boys!)..

we use the mozilla plug-in DownloadHelper to get the episodes onto our computer, then we watch them with Mplayer for a bit better viewing experience than watching right on youtube

you’ll want to get a “client” program if you don’t already have one, we like Pidgin, which works on nassty windowss as well as better platforms like linux. also a good option is chatzilla, which runs with mozilla browsers (like flock2 i guess) on any platform

Pidgin also speaks Instant Messaging  languages, so have the option of using any of many other IM systems with Pidgin too…
